The weekend before last, I went to the Got Craft? show. I suspected that it wouldn't have any miniatures but sort of thought there might be the odd thing that could be re-purposed for the dollhouse. No such luck for mini purchases, although I did get a few ideas for a more modern mini project. One highlight was the baking - cupcakes by the bakesale baking co. and macroons by kawaii eats. I'm salivating just remembering the sweet goodness, <sigh>.
There isn't any progress to report on the paper Casa Batlo since I've been working on furniture kits for the Gryffindor Common Room. I almost purchased a sofa set off ebay but wanted to save a bit of cash and also find something more red in colour so I ended up bidding on House of Miniatures Chippendale kits. They came with blue material which I switched with a half metre of red fabric that I found at a local sewing shop for $4.50. I wanted velvet fabric but the options at the store weren't the right red and I was worried the fabric would be too thick. The kits are fairly straight forward, I only have to stain the legs on the chair to finish that kit and in general would recommend a light touch on the glue since it can ooze through the fabric otherwise. As with many of my crafts, don't look too closely. Part of me still thinks it would have been easier to have bought the premade sofa set...the jury is still out.
"Big" news: I've purchased windows and those are on their way from England! I can probably post a reveal later this week. I was very tempted by the Cumberland castle kit as it's on sale this month (you get the east wing free). However, the price continues to make me pause. Plus, I wanted fancier windows and would have to pay to decorate the kit. My current plan is a simple wallhouse of four rooms constructed of Ikea Prant boxes. One complication is that the boxes I want are only available in one size at my local Ikea. The website has been teasing me with other sizes, which as luck would have it, can't be purchased online and are in stock across the border a few hours away. If I can't get my hands on US stock I might use the larger size. Oh, did I mention that these new boxes are discontinued? I was so tired of checking the website each day that I emailed Ikea and was given this news. Hopefully, it won't be back to the drawing board...
