Detail of the Louis Vuitton storefront > (Pictures from ebay) There's also Chanel, Hermes, Cartier... | My sister spotted this on ebay. I was planning on bidding but once the price kept rising I didn't see the point. In the end, someone bought it for over $400! I have no idea how much they are new but looking at their website, they have other Parisian shops as well as houses. I'll finally be back in Paris next year and can't wait to check the store out. Meanwhile, I do have a friend in Paris right now and I'm restraining myself from asking her to go shop for me. But I'm kinda freaking out with how adorable they look. LV! In miniature! I die! Here's a collection to ooh over at the French Hutch. |

Instead of finishing off the Yule Tide (which would make sense) I've mixed things up a bit by starting on Jolley's Emporium. I'll blame it all on the online show, A Mini Miniature Show, when I went a bit crazy and bought from a few different dealers. The bottom floor of Jolley's will have a bakery / tearoom and you can see some of the things I've bought so far. The bakery rack and countertop display are from Petworth Miniatures. The cakes are from Pauline's Minis (here's her blog), Alison Brand (everything on the check square, here's her etsy shop), and Taffy & Me Creations (love cake on the top shelf of the rack, lefthand side).
Here's me trying out a dremel on a scrap piece of MDF. Notice the fine motor skills. Luckily, it's scrap. This is an old picture from a few weekends ago (guess I have been a blog slacker). After this, it was concluded that creating the windows on the birdcage with the dremel may not be the best idea. So what I ended up doing was drilling a hole inside the window outline and using a coping saw to cut out the shape. I have been using the dremel to sand/finish them, though. Give me enough time, I could overcome my fear of power tools. Small ones, at least. It doesn't even look like I'm holding the dremel properly...but maybe I'll blame that on the camera angle. It would appear that I've been doing more shopping than crafting. I now have 3 quarter scale kits - the Tiny Townhouse from Sue H., a Crooked Stick Lane (without the shoe) from Suzanne & Andrew's Miniatures, and a Yule Tide Christmas Shop from Petite Properties. Oh, and You-Know-Who found a $10 DuraCraft Newberg dollhouse kit on Craigslist. $10! Now, I just need to convince him to put it together for me :P I finished something! Ta da - Casa Batllo
Well, almost finished...one piece needs re-gluing and I'm sort of planning on adding a cardboard support to the inside. There is an estore but I can't see the paper model listed there. Ikea's stock prognosis (in an alternate universe) This past weekend I went on a trip down to Seattle with You-Know-Who. One of the main reasons I was in a rush to drive down was to visit the Ikea and get the Prant boxes for my Hogwarts project. My local Ikea had the larger size, 13x15, but I wanted the smaller size, 10x13 (approx.) which weren't available in Canada. Despite being small and flat-packed they aren't for sale online. I regularly checked the website with it's handy stock prognosis and was pretty confident the 20 pieces wouldn't be sold out by the time I made it down there. THE IKEA WEBSITE LIES. The store computer lies as well, since it also said there was stock but the store salesperson couldn't find them and said the website information is often delayed. By days? By weeks? Luckily, there was an amazing BBQ place nearby or the drive down to Auburn would have been a total waste. (I highly recommend the bread pudding at Famous Dave's BBQ.) Outside Seattle, there is the Dollhouse Cottage. It looks like they hold some interesting workshops there but the store itself didn't really impress me. Three items I did get excited about were quite pricey so I didn't buy them. I'll stick to the stores closer to me with their larger selections. For dollhouse supplies, the mini-holiday wasn't very successful. I do have some reveals, hence the good news. First up, the gothic windows for Hogwarts. The church windows are from Baccraft Miniatures in the UK and the others are from ebay seller amd5758, who I think has stopped selling:( I'll have to figure out what to do with the small ones and if I need more church windows. Below, a quarter scale kit Tiny Townhouse from Sue Herber. I was a bit overwhelmed when I opened it up and looked at the instructions but we'll see how it goes. I'm questioning if this is a good kit to test out quarter scale with, or if I should attempt something a bit more simple first. In any case, I'll be focusing more on the birdcage before moving to the smaller scale. Well, that's the current plan. Next time I'll have to put something like a ruler or penny beside the parts so you can see how small they are. Yesterday, I had He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (aka, the boyfriend) cut up a large sheet of MDF to make walls and floors for the birdcage. My original plan was simply to use cardboard but I will need to grout one of the floors so cardboard isn't the best base. Poor You-Know-Who quickly realized that it wasn't going to be a straight-forward 3 walled house. I had made templates of each wall section but even using those and re-measuring, the cut pieces still needed some resizing. So more using the plane. I mainly stood back and supervised :P I do have a pretty good idea of how I'm going to decorate the birdcage, although I'll need to figure out what to do about windows. Especially since I'm feeling impatient to start wallpapering and painting. For my paper Casa, the end is in sight! I spent a few hours working through more steps so I think it's mainly the roof and back support that is left to do. I have a few more updates to share...hopefully I'll post some more photos before the end of the week. My show purchases Last Sunday I went to the West Coast Dollhouse and Miniature Show with my boyfriend, who oddly enough, didn't seem to mind attending it with me. Surprisingly, I didn't spend oodles of money but did manage to find a few items and not get carried away. Most of them I purchased from Just Imagine Miniatures, except for the twig stool/table that I bought from someone else (I've forgotten the name, sorry!). Despite circling the miniLand table several times, nothing quite matched my wishlist. No doubt, if I was at their store in Victoria I would have left with plenty of goodies. What really sparked my interest was the quarter scale exhibits - so much so that I've ordered a kit from a seller in nearby Washington State and joined an online forum on smaller scales. Now I need to get to work finishing my 1:12 scale projects! |
